2008 in Review

Apparently I only update my xanga once a year. Oh well. I guess it's a good sign when your life is too full of things to have the time to blog. I'm sure only a couple people even check this anymore, but blogs are really more for the writer than the readers anyway, right? It's the last day of 2008, so I thought I'd do something similar to what I did last year with a little recap. Hey, it's almost like a whole year of entries, right? As usual, I prefer pictures to words, so I'll include my favorite shots as well.

January 26: Megan and David's Wedding. Erica and I are bridesmaids! I was terrified that I was going to pass out again during my bridesmaid duties (i.e. my brother's wedding) but I made it through. It was a beautiful wedding.

March: trip to California with Carla and Laura. Hands down, the best vacation of my life. Many firsts for me: first time on the West Coast, first time seeing the Pacific Ocean, first time renting a car. Sunny weather, fun people, relaxing times. Can it get any better than that? Oh yeah, sneaking into a movie premier and seeing all those celebs close up!

May 23: My favorite little girl becomes a big sister when baby brother Gavin is born. It's hard to believe how much bigger he is now.

May 24: Stephanie and Seth tie the knot.

June 14: Matt and Kelly get married. Are you seeing a trend here?

June: I start my new job as Marketing Specialist for Harford County Public Library. First task: the 4th of July parades!

July: I decide that going to a shooting range would be a good date idea. Dan obliges like a good boyfriend. Mayhem ensues.

August 9: I turn 24. Among the excitement is a brand new Prius (pictured smaller than actual size!) and a trip to Medieval Times!

August: Girls weekend out in Baltimore. Craziness, of course.

September: I decide on a whim to look into buying my own place. A few weeks later, I'm a homeowner!

September 13: I take my Maid of Honor duties seriously and help throw Erica a suprise bridal shower. Months of work, and worth every bit of it!

October 5: I go to my first Ravens game at the stadium in Baltimore. We lost, but it was lots of fun anyways!

October 18: Kyle and Kaite get married. My mother meets Gavin (see May 23) for the first time and becomes obsessed.

October 24-25: Erica & Jon's wedding weekend. Oodles of fun. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to be the Maid of Honor, and Erica was the most gorgeous bride ever. Dan actually managed my camera pretty well that weekend.

2007 in Review...

Since it's the beginning of yet another new year, I thought I would recap the best (and worst) of 2007 with an entry. Some of my favorite pictures from last year are included at no extra charge. Enjoy!

February 27-28: Hillary has Jury Duty for the first time in her life. She even gets to be the foreman (woman) of the jury and read the verdict. Turns out real court is not as exciting as Law & Order makes it appear to be.

March 17-24: Hillary goes to Disney World with Melody and her ‘rents. Who doesn’t love a good Disney trip?!

April 13-16: Hillary goes on a road trip to North Carolina with Amanda. Lots of craziness ensues, including a speeding ticket for reckless endangerment (Amanda gets the ticket, not Hillary), the world’s cutest puppy and a “haunted” house.

May 5: Hillary gets to see Brian Regan live at Messiah College. She is fully stocked with a new set of quotes for the rest of the year.

May 18-25: Hillary goes to Miami with her sister, brother and sister-in-law to visit family. A much needed vacation.

May 29: Hillary starts her new job (which she still loves) and learns the joys of traveling through the Harbor Tunnel twice a day. Luckily, the office moves to Towson in July and the commute is much better.

June 8-17: Hillary’s favorite Aunt, Uncle and cousin from Texas come to visit. Hillary is very happy.

June 30: Jenn & Jesse’s wedding….Hillary has fun taking some of her first real photographs at a wedding.

July 20: Hairspray finally hits theaters, something Hillary has been awaiting for 2 years. Hillary and her mother annoy the entire audience by singing along the entire time.

August 4: Hillary attends her five-year high school reunion. Has it really been that long?

August 2-18 : Hillary’s stepsister, brother-in-law and niece come to visit. It’s the first time Hillary has seen her little niece since she was 6 months old (before they all moved away) and Hillary learns that she loves being called “Aunt Hill” in a Southern accent.

August 9: Hillary turns 23 and continues to have a hard time thinking she isn’t still 21.

August 13: Hillary purchases her first ever Mac. It hasn’t really left her side since.

August 25-26: Hillary visits her Great Uncle and Aunt’s farm in Pennsylvania and almost gets to ride a cow. She does however learn how to make butter, pluck a chicken and appreciate suburbia.

September 8: Hillary attends Chris & Kristin’s wedding…only two weddings in 2007. Much slimmer compared to the SIX that are already on the books for Hillary in 2008.

September 11: Hillary’s house is outfitted with Comcast On-Demand High-Def Digital Cable with DVR. Hillary discovers old Nickelodeon reruns on an obscure channel and her life is never the same again.

September 25: Hillary has her first root canal. And hopefully last.

October 11: Hillary attends a Shane & Shane/Bebo Norman concert with four awesome ladies to commemorate the departure of one of her best friends on a two-year missionary trip.

October 20: Hillary’s favorite little girl turns two.

October 21: Hillary gets to visit Messiah and see a bunch of people that she loves while picking apples. Hillary even makes her first ever homemade apple pie, but doesn’t get to eat it because of her gallbladder. See next entry.

November 6: Hillary has surgery to remove her gallbladder. Fun, fun, fun.

December 1: Hillary meets a great guy while out at karaoke with some friends. He is now her boyfriend. :o)

December 29: Hillary’s stepbrother Wayne returns from a 15-month tour of duty in Iraq.

Hey cats and kittens....just a quick update. I had the surgery about two weeks ago and everything went fine. I hurt a little more in the first few days afterwards than I thought I would, but my wonderful mommy took good care of me and I was only out of work for a week. It's amazing what modern medicine can do.  Not that many years ago, that surgery would have had me in the hospital for a few weeks and out of work for a couple of months. Even though I'm still convinced that I was born in the wrong time period and should have been a Victorian princess, civil war Southern belle or a roaring 20's jazz baby, it's times like these that I'm thankful for being who I am at this time in history.

In a related story, I'm also thankful for Vicodin.

I Know You Won't

So I'm addicted to Carrie Underwood's new album. Seriously, go get it. I keep coming back to this one song called "I Know You Won't." The vocals are incredible, and I'm pretty sure I wrote this song somewhere in the back of my mind a long time ago. It's basically about EVERY guy I've liked in my life who didn't like me back (that would be all of them, for those keeping count).

"I know you don't mean to be
mean to me
'cause when you want to
you can make me feel like we belong
we belong

Lately you make me feel all I am
is a back up plan
I say, "I'm done," and then you smile at me
and I forget
everything I said
I buy into those eyes
and into your lies

You say you'll call, but I know you
You say you're coming home, but I know you
You say you'll call, but I know you won't
You say you'll call, but I know you won't..."

It reminds me of that saying "Never make someone a priority who treats you like an option."

I keep reminding myself of that, but I always revert back to old habits. Eh, I'm a work in progress.

The Office - Season Three
By Rainn Wilson, Steve Carell, Jenna Fischer, John Krasinski, Ed Helms

Well, it was a long but great weekend. I didn't end up getting to see Ty or the Extreme Makeover thing, but I managed to do everything else I planned. Kyla turned two on Saturday, which was adorable.

Sunday I went up to Messiah and got to see a whole lot of my favorite people! We went apple-picking, then I got to hang out with Jenn & Jesse and bake an apple pie for the first time! Good times all around. Besides being freakishly warm for the end of October, it was a beautiful day.

I met with the surgeon yesterday and the surgery is now scheduled for Tuesday, November 6th. So that kind of messes up some plans I had for November, but I really just want to get it over with at this point. It's actually an outpatient surgery, though. I knew it was just one of those "poke a few holes in you for a camera and some instruments" kind of things, but I didn't know that they would be sending me home right away. It's a little disconcerting to me that they are going to remove one of my organs and then send me packing five minutes later. There is a 50/50 chance that once they start, they won't be able do it laproscopically anymore and will have to do the full eight-inch incision/cut me in half type of surgery. But I won't really know how it goes until I wake up! Oh well.

So that's my update. In final news, Marie Osmond pulled a Hillary and fainted during "Dancing With the Stars" last night right after she finished dancing. I felt so sorry for her, and yet also relieved to know that I'm not the only one who passes out during important events. I have yet to do so on live television, but I guess that's next on my list of inconvenient places to faint.
